Benches
Once you’ve completed a Health & Safety Induction, you can book a bench and use the Workshop machinery and equipment.
Benches can be booked for one day or half day across two areas:
- Wood Workshop – The main woodworking bench space with easy access to all machinery including framing equipment
- Metal Workshop – The main workspace for using metal machinery
Our current benches day / half-day rates:
Woodwork bench / Metalwork Bench
Full day £35 (09:30 – 17:30)
Half day £25 (09:30 – 13.00 or 14.00 – 17.30)
We also offer 1 month, 6 month and 1 year Workshop Memberships – these memberships include unlimited bench bookings, so works out a lot cheaper if you are looking to use the Workshop regularly.

Additional spaces and machinery that can be booked:
We’re open for bookings Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 5.30pm. There is always a Technician on site keeping everyone safe and maintaining machinery.
If you wish to collaborate with an additional person on your bench booking, they will be charged an additional £15 per day – this is subject to availability. Both users must have a minimum of L1 safety induction. Please email info@blackhorseworkshop.co.uk with any queries.
Resources
We provide safety protection including ear defenders, gloves and goggles and lockers are available to store personal belongings while you’re here.
You’re welcome to use our collection of hand tools and power tools whilst on-site and we have limited bookable storage space available – please ask at Reception for details.
As well as our onsite café, there is a communal kitchen area on the first floor, complete with microwave and kettle.
Accessibility
Wheelchair Access: Our main Workshop and Cafe is wheelchair accessible, and we have a ground floor accessible toilet. Unfortunately, our Studio 2 education and woodturning centre is up three flights of stairs and is not wheelchair accessible.
Parking: We have a blue ticket parking bay – contact us to reserve it.
Hearing Loop: We have a hearing loop available – please let us know if you require it.

TYPES OF BENCHES
Brazing Hearth
We also have small brazing hearth available in our outdoor space. You can book the brazing hearth via our online booking system here
Are you a frequent open access members? We offer metal-only memberships including access to the Brazing Hearth, available on a month, six month, and one year basis.
Forge
In our outdoor area we have a bookable forge. You will need previous blacksmithing experience and a forge induction to use our forge. To get inducted please email our team at info@blackhorseworkshop.co.uk. If you’re new to Blacksmithing, we recommend our course Introduction to Blacksmithing to learn the basics and get inducted.

Woodturning Space
We have a range of lathes and turning tools located in our turning space. Feel free to visit our space to check out our equipment.
To book lathes in our turning space will need to complete a turning induction via our Woodturning Weekends, to book our lathe in the main Workshop you will need to complete a separate Health & Safety Machine Shop Level 1 induction. For experienced turners, we offer fast-track inductions – subject to availability, £55. Drop us an email at info@blackhorseworkshop.co.uk to find out more.
Our self-guided woodturning sessions in our turning space run on Thursday, and will give you the opportunity to develop your work alongside other turners . Slots are bookable up to 2 weeks in advance – you must have completed a lathe induction to do these sessions so you can use the machines to prepare your blanks and get an overview of how the Workshop works.

Assembly Space
Our Assembly Space is a bright, flexible, covered and enclosed outdoor area designed for larger scale wood and metalwork projects. (Dimensions: 3mX6m (18m2) / Height 3 – 3.5m)
Prices: Per day £65 / Per week £325 / Per month £1200
All users of the Assembly space who require use of the wood or metal workshops are required to join the relevant induction session here.

Metalwork Area
Each of the bookable metalwork benches has access to specific equipment such as a MIG welder, TIG welder, Arc welder or brazing hearth. An adjustable height bench is available.

PAYMENT OPTIONS
PAY AS YOU GO
You don’t have to have a studio here to use the Workshop. Anyone can access the tools and equipment after completing the relevant Health & Safety Induction, and pay on a daily or one month/six month/yearly basis.
CONCESSIONS CLUB
Our Concessions Club offers free course places when our courses aren’t fully sold out, and affordable bench access to Blackhorse Workshop.
