Our fully equipped Workshop has a range of Woodwork and Metalwork machinery, power and hand tools, an outdoor spray room, small forge and grinding area, framing equipment and woodturning centre. You can find details below of all the specific equipment we have on site.

Woodwork and Metalwork benches are bookable by the day or half day (book here) or we have longer term studio and desk spaces available to rent. We also offer 1 -month, 6-month and annual memberships (Workshop or Metal-only). Download our membership prices here, and email us info@blackhorseworkshop.co.uk to start your membership.

A variety of under-bench and wall storage is available for small scale projects or tools, ranging from £15 to £45 per month. Projects that are in progress or at glued-up stage might be able to be left in situ by arrangement with technician. Board and long length material can be stored in the rack in the workshop, labelled with your name and delivery date. Maximum storage two weeks.

Before using the Workshop you’ll need to source your own materials. We work with a few trusted suppliers we recommend, a basic list of whom are shown below.

Placing your order: Please note you’ll need to make sure you’re here to receive your goods if ordering in bulk. You also need to ensure deliveries are placed under your name, NOT ‘Blackhorse Workshop’, otherwise they are likely to get lost.

Tools & Consumables

Although we don’t maintain a large supply of consumables (i.e. glue, tape, sanding paper, etc.) in the workshop we do sell a small selection of core consumable items such as sandpaper, grinding discs and tape from our reception. If there’s anything else you’re looking for ask our technicians, or you can use the following suppliers:

Tool Station – Blackhorse Lane: for workshop consumables and tools
C&S Walthamstow – also in Blackhorse Lane for workshop consumables and tools
Screwfix – Billet Way or Lea Bridge Rd branches: for workshop consumables & tools
Axminster tools – for specialist wood & metal tools & equipment
WP Wakefield (680-682 Lea Bridge Road, E10 6AP) – for specialist fixings & fittings

WOOD

For hardwoods, we’d suggest getting in touch with Fallen and Felled who are based now at Camden workshop – Arch 20. They offer a stunning selection of London grown high quality joinery timber for sale from oak to ash.

Other wood suppliers we’d recommend are:
– E Roberts Timber – for hardwood timber and board materials, including birch ply.
– James Latham – for specialist board materials.
– Travis Perkins– E17, Wood Street branch – for solid timber, board materials & building supplies.

If you’re in need of emergency supplies and small quantities of timber, C&S are just across the road from us. You are welcome to borrow one of our workshop board trolleys to collect large materials.

If you haven’t done your Health & Safety Level 2 Machine Induction, and need material cut to size – then Cutlist are a good company to contact.

METAL

F.H.Brundle – for all types of steel section and components.
Aalco – for specialist non-ferrous metals including copper, brass, aluminium.
Hub-Le-Bas – Specialist in different profiles of steel tubing.
BOC – specialist in welding gas and equipment.
Cirrus Laser – laser cutting services for metals.

Most steel comes in 6 -7.5 metre lengths. Please ask your supplier to cut your order into max 3m lengths so we can store subject to quantity.

We recommend Rose & Hollis framing suppliers, which sells specialist mouldings, mountboards, paints, stains and waxes.
