The Kit Kite Project marked the re-emergence from Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 and created 1,000 kite kits distributed by bike to residents across Waltham Forest.

Sending the instructions and ready materials, makers of all ages were challenged to showcase their design skills and channel their message, celebrating their hero or heroine, or the place they live.

Ten artist-makers from Waltham Forest were commissioned to create unique designs inspired by the pandemic or dedicated to people they admire. Each documented their process on film to share and inspire.

The Kit Kite Project was commissioned by Waltham Forest for their free 2020 Virtual Culture project, which was created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. A further 500 kites were produced to mark the ‘Walthamstow Garden Party In The Air‘ festival, produced by the Barbican with London Borough of Waltham Forest, and with the support of Arts Council England.
