About the Course

This is a beginners course which we would recommend for people getting started in woodwork or needing a refresher. If you’re completely new to woodwork, you might want to start with the Introduction to Hand Tools, but this course doesn’t assume any prior knowledge.

The course will provide you with an introduction to the key power tools vital for any woodworker to learn their craft. You’ll learn the correct tools to use across a range of woodworking tasks: the use of a biscuit joiner to join two components edge to edge, the correct type of cutter to use with a router, how to achieve better accuracy with a router table, and how to make curved cuts using a jigsaw.

You will learn how and when to use different tools and practice using them to make a stylish pizza server in contrasting woods. The course is accompanied by a technical handout that provides a reference for the tools and techniques that you’ve covered. If you enjoy this course, an Introduction to Joinery will develop your woodworking skills and techniques using hand and power tools.

ACCESSIBILITY 

Please note at this time Studio 2 has no step-free access and has three flights of stairs up to the Workshop Room. 

We have a hearing loop available.

In making a course booking, it is your responsibility to read the full course description and abide by the guidelines given. If the course requires a Health and Safety Induction and you have not taken the relevant course, we reserve the right to remove you from the course. 

Appropriate and adequate clothing must be worn in the workshop. Sturdy shoes / boots must be worn, no trainers. No shorts and no synthetic fabrics to be worn in metalwork, cotton, wool and leather only.  

Students must follow Blackhorse Workshop Health and Safety guidance at all times. If you fail to follow these instructions you may be asked to leave the course. 

People with long term respiratory conditions should be aware that the workshop is a dusty environment that may impact their health. 

If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant we recommend consulting a health professional before taking part in welding or blacksmithing. 

Please note that refunds and course transfers are available up to 1 week before start date. We cannot offer refunds or course transfers after this date. 

We cannot offer refunds due to illness. Once a course has started, we cannot offer any transfers or refunds.
