About the Course

Learn the basics of wood carving to produce your own carved wooden coaster. You will learn how to use wood carving chisels (gouges) to create decorative surface cuts and take home your own chip carved piece for your home.

Frist, try out different chisels on a practice board and then work from examples of different chip carving techniques to adapt your own design. Your tutor will provide you with a basic design which you can adapt or will support you in creating a design of your own that is suited to the technique.

You will be provided with a blank wooden coaster, into which you will carve your designs. You will leave with a coaster and the knowledge on how to decorate any wooden surface with this kind of relief carving, giving you the skills to apply this to other woodworking projects.

Your tutor will also provide information on places to purchase the tools used in the course as well as other options to suit all budgets.
