This intensive includes a Health & Safety Induction: Woodwork Level 1, granting you access to Blackhorse Workshop bench bookings so that you can continue developing your skills after you complete the course.

Skills You'll Learn: 

Safe Use of Machines: Chop Saw, Pillar Drill, Band Saw, Disc Sander, Bobbin Sander, Mortiser, Orbital Sander, Hand Drill

Joinery Techniques: Mortise & Tenon, Dowelled Joint, Lap Joint 

Woodwork Techniques: Gluing and clamping, accurately measuring and marking; understanding wood grain 

Sawing Techniques: Chiseling and paring; using mallets and chisels; fitting and adjusting joint strengths; troubleshooting and adapting to problems as they arise

About the Course

Join us for this hands-on, four day summer joinery intensive, where you'll progress from the basics of joinery to intermediate skills. By the end of the course, you'll take home your very own beautifully crafted pair of foldable trestle legs made of tulip wood.

Additional information

Please dress appropriately for metalwork, no trainers or shorts, we recommend sturdy shoes/boots and jeans or similar. We also recommend sturdy shoes/boots to be worn for woodwork.

Accessibility

Wheelchair Access: Our main Workshop and Cafe is wheelchair accessible, and we have a ground floor accessible toilet. An adjustable height woodwork bench is available for this course.

Unfortunately, our Studio 2 education and woodturning centre is up three flights of stairs and is not wheelchair accessible. 

Parking: We have a blue ticket parking bay – contact us to reserve it.

Hearing Loop: We have a hearing loop available – please let us know if you require it.
